Faucet Hookup Done by a Licensed Plumber

A faucet hookup sounds simple until you're under the sink with water shut-offs that won't budge, supply lines that don't fit, and a drain assembly that's corroded past the point of hand-tightening. Marvin Guida brings 25 years of hands-on plumbing experience to every faucet job, from a basic kitchen swap to a full fixture installation in a bathroom remodel. He holds Colorado Master Plumber license #MP.03001524, he's backed by 47 five-star Google reviews, and he works Monday through Friday. Call (719) 774-7451 to schedule.

Most faucet installations take one to two hours, but the variables that stretch that window are real: corroded valve seats, incompatible drain assemblies, supply line configuration, whether the shutoff valves beneath the sink hold reliably, and how much clearance exists in the cabinet. Every job is different -- contact Summit Peak Plumbing LLC for an accurate estimate.

When You Actually Need a Plumber for a Faucet

Not every faucet swap is a DIY job. Some of them really aren't.

The honest answer to 'do you need a plumber to install a faucet' is: it depends on what's underneath. If the shutoff valves are original to a 1970s build, if there's visible corrosion on the supply lines, if the drain rough-in doesn't match the new faucet's spread, or if you're adding a faucet where none existed before -- those aren't DIY scenarios. A handyman can swap a faucet in ideal conditions. A licensed master plumber can handle what happens when conditions aren't ideal, which is most of the time in real homes. Marvin doesn't subcontract. The person who picks up the phone is the person who shows up with the tools.

How It Works

Marvin's Installation Process

Three steps, no surprises.

  1. 01

    Assess Before Touching Anything

Marvin checks the shutoff valves, existing supply lines, drain configuration, and cabinet clearance before the old faucet comes out. If something downstream is going to cause a problem, you know about it before the job starts -- not after.

  2. 02

    Remove, Prep, Install

Old faucet out, mounting surface cleaned, new faucet seated and torqued correctly. Supply lines get replaced if they're older than 10 years or show any braiding wear. Plumber's putty or silicone gets used where the faucet type calls for it -- not as a default on every job.

  3. 03

    Test and Confirm

Water on, full pressure check, hot and cold verified, drain tested for proper seal. Marvin won't leave until he's run the faucet long enough to confirm there's no drip at the supply connections or at the drain.

What Drives the Cost on a Faucet Hookup

The faucet itself is often the smallest part of the total cost. What changes the labor side: how accessible the shutoffs are, whether the existing supply lines can be reused, whether the drain rough-in needs adjustment, and whether the cabinet under the sink gives a plumber enough room to work without contorting. A straightforward bathroom lavatory swap on a newer home with good shutoffs is a different job than a kitchen faucet replacement on a 1960s house where the shutoffs haven't moved in 30 years and the supply connections are sweated copper. If you have corroded or slow-draining bathroom sink lines, Marvin can address those at the same visit. Every job is different -- contact Summit Peak Plumbing LLC for an accurate estimate.

Colorado's Hard Water and Your Faucet

Plumbing fixtures including copper tubing, valves, and faucet components on a windowsill with mountain view
El Paso County water runs hard. Calcium deposits build up on aerators, inside valve cartridges, and around the base of faucets faster than most homeowners expect. Kim Jankowski's review mentions Marvin pointing out calcium buildup on a faucet and showing her how to address it -- that's what 25 years of working in this specific water supply looks like. When Marvin installs a faucet, he'll flag any visible mineral buildup in the supply lines and let you know whether a whole-home water softener would extend the life of your fixtures. He won't push one on every job -- only when the water chemistry actually warrants it.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need a licensed plumber to install a faucet?
Legally, most faucet replacements on existing rough-in don't require a permit in Colorado. But 'no permit required' isn't the same as 'anyone can do it.' If the shutoff valves are aging, if supply lines are corroded, or if you're adding a faucet to a location that doesn't have existing supply rough-in, you're into licensed plumbing territory. Marvin holds Colorado Master Plumber license #MP.03001524 and can handle what a handyman can't -- including sweating copper if a shutoff fails mid-job.
Can a handyman install a faucet instead of a plumber?
A handyman can swap a faucet if conditions are ideal: accessible shutoffs that work, matching supply line connections, no drain modifications needed. In older Front Range homes that's often not the case. Corroded stop valves, lead-free solder transitions, and non-standard drain configurations all require a licensed plumber. If the job turns into something a handyman can't legally or safely finish, you end up paying for both visits. Marvin charges for one.
Should plumber's putty be used when installing a faucet?
It depends entirely on the faucet manufacturer's instructions and the mounting surface. Plumber's putty is still correct for some drain flanges and deck-mount applications, but many modern faucets specify silicone sealant instead -- especially on stone or composite surfaces where putty can stain or degrade the material. Using the wrong sealant voids some manufacturer warranties. Marvin checks the installation spec for your specific faucet before reaching for either one.
How long does a faucet hookup take?
A straightforward kitchen or bathroom faucet replacement on a newer home with accessible shutoffs and matching supply lines typically runs one to two hours. Add time for shutoff valve replacement, drain assembly work, or any supply line modifications. Marvin gives you a realistic time estimate after he's seen the shutoff configuration and cabinet access -- not before, because the variables under the sink matter more than the faucet itself.
What if my shutoff valve fails during a faucet installation?
It happens more often than people expect, especially on shutoffs that haven't been operated in years. When a valve fails mid-job, a handyman's visit becomes a plumbing emergency. Marvin carries replacement angle-stop valves and can sweat in a new ball valve shutoff if the original can't be rebuilt. The work gets completed in the same visit. He also connects to the main water line repair process if the issue runs deeper than the stop valve itself.
Does Summit Peak install faucets on weekends?
No. Marvin works Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Call (719) 774-7451 and he'll get you on the schedule for the next business day.
